These programs change every year. The amounts and eligibility thresholds below reflect 2026 program data. We confirm current numbers at the free quote and handle the paperwork on utility-side rebates.
Federal IRA 25C energy efficiency tax credit
The Inflation Reduction Act extended the 25C residential energy efficiency tax credit through December 31, 2032.
Up to $2,000 per year for qualifying heat pump HVAC systems. Systems must meet ENERGY STAR Most Efficient criteria, generally 16-plus SEER2 and 8.1-plus HSPF2. The credit reduces your federal income tax liability dollar-for-dollar.
The $2,000 cap resets each year. Install a heat pump in 2026 and a heat pump water heater in 2027 and you can claim credits in both years. No income cap on this credit.
To claim: we provide the efficiency documentation. You or your tax preparer file IRS Form 5695 with your return for the year of installation.
